Top 10 Most Popular Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards of 2015

(Arcknight)Before the year changes its last number, we are going to compile some of the most popular cards that you never expected to have its price skyrocketed. Below are the top 10 cards that fit this category: (It's ranked but does not follow any particular order)

Top 10 Most Popular YGO Cards of 2015 Banner by Arcknight

       Top 1 : Luster Pendulum,the Dracoslayer

Upon its release in CORE, it is one of those foil cards that has potential. Aside from “Qliphort”, no Pendulum archetype yet has utilized this powerful card not until “Majespectre” and “EmEm” came into the scene. Since this card has no reprint yet, its value has remained unchanged even though “EmEm” was eviscerated by the recent “January 2016 Forbidden & Limited List” in OCG.(Though “Magician” and “Odd-Eyes” variants still exist.)

Top 2  :Xyz Universe

The aim of this card is to make use of Xyz monsters to summon powerful rank 8(The most common) or higher Xyz monsters by dodging the possible effects of powerful Rank 4 monsters like “Castel, the Avian Skyblaster”, “No.101 S.H.Ark Knight” , “Sno.39 Utopia the Lightning” and so much more. Since Rank 4 is pretty relevant nowadays, this card has finally found a way to shine in this format. If you’re using an Xyz centric deck like “Raidraptors” and “Gadgets”, you can use this card effectively because your opponent is more likely to use xyz monster to remove your monster as well.

Top 3: Mist Valley Apex Avian

Before, placing this card on the field is a pain to deal with because it doesn’t have any self summoning conditions like other boss monsters of other archetypes aside from, of course, tribute summoning. But because of the pendulum mechanic and the pendulum “Magicians” debuting with scales that can accommodate this mighty winged-beast monster, summoning multiples of this card is very easy.

It has an effect that negates any card effect ala “Solemn Judgment” so if you have that finisher combo but you are facing this card, well, you need to think again. Unlike other walking Solemns like “Evolzar Laggia” and “Cyber Dragon Infinity”, it doesn’t have any materials for your opponent to bait with in order to bypass its negation. By just returning this monster to hand, you can instantly negate their cards. Quite ironic because next turn, you are just going to pendulum summon it again and again. (And negate again and again)

     Top 4:  Twin Twister

Gone are the days where a player seeks for “Mystical Space Typhoon” just to destroy a floodgate only to find out that another floodgate is just waiting to be activated on your opponent’s spell and trap card zone. This card is undoubtedly designed to

assuage barricade of back rows as well as another means of destroying pendulum scales. Its cost does not even matter because it can also be used as a way of dumping your cards to grave like “Burning Abyss”, “Monarchs” and “Shiranui”.

    Top 5:  Solemn Notice

Unlike other cards that were hyped due to how effective they are in the current format, this one is pretty expected to be the most expensive card in “Breakers of Shadow” as far as I know. This one can negate any monster effect and destroy massive inherent summons by just paying 1500 life points. It is very straightforward and is very devastating adding the very fact that it is a Counter Trap card. Now, every deck can have their very own “Gladiator Beast War Chariot” that can turn the tides of the game.

Top 6: Masked Change II & Masked Hero Darklaw

Due to how popular “Burning Abyss” have become (Just like what I have mentioned in my previous articles), people find loopholes that can out power this very consistent deck. One of them is by using HEROs grand floodgate, “Masked HERO Darklaw”. Using “Masked Change II”, decks that uses DARK attribute monsters such as “Blackwing”,”Dark World”,”Raidraptors”,”Moon-light”(Post SHVI), and another “Burning Abyss” can combat the army of “Dante”.

Top 7: D/D/D Temujin the Blaze Overlord

D/D/D is in the air! This SPRG exclusive fusion monster was once overlooked in favor of “D/D/D Oracle King D’Arc”. Due to the recent arrival of the newest Structured Deck, “Temujin” becomes one of the very compelling OTK enabler of the said archetype.

Top 8: Number 16: Shock Master

The ultimate floodgate per se, it shocks every player who has key cards prevented by this card. This is very advantageous for those who go first because they can thwart possible plays that your opponent might use against you. Unfortunately, the recent January 2016 OCG Ban list ended the streak of this decisive Rank 4 by sending it straight to the shadow realms.

 Top 9: Wavering Eyes

At first glance, its effect is very anti-pendulum but if you are playing a pendulum-centric deck yourself, it can net you advantage and lets you search any pendulum you need and want. If the both fields happen to be occupied with scales, you can wipe all of it and search for another “Wavering Eyes”. Take note, this card is not limited to one turn use so you can use this card so long as you have pendulums to destroy.

Top 10: Planetellarknight Ptolemaeus/Cyber Dragon Nova/Cyber Dragon Infinity

Because of “Cyber Dragon Infinity”, the “Cyber Dragon” structure deck becomes relevant once again because of “Cyber Dragon Nova”. Not because everyone suddenly becomes hooked into “Cyber Dragon” archetype but because of the now forbidden xyz monster “Planettelarknight Ptolemaeus” that can evolve into “Cyber Dragon Infinity" in three easy steps. If you are playing a Rank 4 Spam deck, this trio is definitely a staple in your Extra Deck Line-up. Now that Ptolemaeus was hit by the banhammer, seems like the Cyber Evolution has ended though it will still remain in the utmost heart of “Cyber Dragon” players and “Zane Truesdale” fanatics.

Conclusion:

After the release of “Shining Victories”, a new meta contender (Blue-Eyes) will invade the tournament scene by storm. Few more days to go and we will be moving onto the new chapters of our dueling career. Let us make every misplay a lesson to learn. Together, let us all learn by playing and grow by learning!
