To those who didn't know, the next OCG deck that I have made after "Sylvans" was "Melodious".You know me,I am always fond of making non-tier decks competitive. As a "Melodious" player,I know what are the STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSES of this deck. Now,I'm going to review the first card "Opera, the Melodious Diva"
PROS
- It's a new "Melodious" monster that means it benefits the protection of "Elegy, the Melodious Diva" and "Aria, the Melodious Diva" and the Stat boost of "Sonata, the Melodious Diva".
- If your "Aria,Elegy" lock is not yet ready, this card,if used as a Fusion material monster, makes the entire "Stage" of "Melodious" monsters invulnerable to Battle and Effect destruction for the entire turn.
- It has a very decent 2300 ATK blocking monsters like "Thunder King Raioh" and "El-Shaddol Winda".
- It is a level 4 Light monster so you can special summon her through "Photon Lead" or just by normal summoning it.
- Cool Artwork.
- Though it has attack restrictions the time it is normal summoned but it can attack the turn it is Special summoned.Take note of this.*
CONS
- While it packs a very high attack for a Level 4 monster,it has a quite disappointing restriction which prevents her from attacking the turn it is normal summoned(Like toons).
- Though her 2nd effect is good, the only currently way you can use her as fusion material is through "Soprano, the Melodious Songstress" which requires you to fusion summon using "Field-only" monster. In tough situations, there is a very low chance that "Opera" and "Soprano" will be on the center stage at the same time unless you use "Photon Lead" or "Polymerization".
- Most of the cards nowadays do not destroy such as "Compulsory Evacuation Device".Usually, the protection of "Aria" and "Elegy" is just better.Unless we get a themed "Shaddol Fusion",that's the time I think this card will unleash her singing powress!
Crystal Rose
Light/Rock/2
500/500
Once per turn: You can send 1 "Gem-Knight" or "Melodious" monster from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard, and if you do, this card's name becomes the sent monster's, until the End Phase. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 1 Fusion Monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card in Defense Position. You can only use this effect of "Crystal Rose" once per turn.
Let's review this card shall we?
PROS
- A very good tool for fusion summoning hard to summon "Melodious" fusion monster like "Bloom Diva, the Melodious Muse"
- Searches Every "Melodious" monsters in your deck or dump them from your hand for later use.
- Dumps "Aria" or "Elegy" for your lock.
- Grave recursion effect comes in handy during mid-late game.
- Light monster for "Photon Lead" and "Honest"
CONS
- A very mediocre attack.
- Susceptible to battle attacks if you leave it open on your field.
- Not really named "Melodious" so it cannot be searched by "Solo: First Movement".
Final Remarks:
I certainly think that "Melodious" need more supports like a Spell card "Monster Reborn" or a field spell that continuously special summon them.We are still left with more unrevealed card for them such as "Tamtam, the Melodious Diva" and "Pianissimo" which I hope will do better to harmonize the theme altogether.Either way,I'm still happy that we received some boost and hopefully,I can do tournament reports in the future.
That ends my article for today.I hope you enjoyed reading and now is my time to say the word EXIT as my tooth is currently aching and it's dinner time Lol.
Happy Dueling! RESPECT!
