Here are the Top 10 MUST-HAVE cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel!

Hey everyone! Welcome to our very first article in February. Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has been a very popular game since its release and it really caught the attention of existing, returning and new playerbase. While Master Duel has a great feature to dismantle unwanted cards and craft the cards you need with ease, with less exposure to the current OCG/TCG metagame, there's high probability that the crafted SRs and URs will turn into waste by getting cards that either doesn't benefit your deck's strategy or has little to no impact in the competitive scene. Which is why today, we're going to share the top 10 must-have cards whether you are just starting to play the game we love or if you want a baseline to build almost any deck!

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Maxx "C", Infinite Impermanence, Called by the Grave

Here are the top 10 cards (In no particular order)

1. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring has been an all-time favorite hand-trap in almost any deck. The ability to negate almost anything that relates to deck searching (Special Summon, Drawing and Adding cards from Deck) is totally powerful for us to pass. It is also a tuner for your Cryston Halqifibrax and with its 1800 defense, you can be sure that you have a decent defense wall just in case. Majority of the popular decks in Master Duel such as Tri-Brigade, Virtual World, Drytron, Eldlich, etc. relies on searching and one of their cards you negated with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring could be a game changer and can possibly slow them down. For starters, 3 of this card is a must.

2. Maxx "C" - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

Maxx "C" is back but in Master Duel. We know how annoying it is to face the Maxx "C" challenge as this is a game of card and field advantage. Maxx "C" is a card that triggers your decision making skills - whether you go for game where opponent's draws are no longer important or you stop all the special summons to limit the card advantage your opponent will get. If you fail to get your combo pieces on your first five, this card lets you dig your resources or at least buy you time since you'll probably stop your opponent from establishing their board. A must 3 in deckbuilding.

3. Called by the Grave - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

For combo decks, this card is a must to prevent popular hand traps that will hit the grave such as our top 1 and 2. This also halts grave reliant decks or cards that would revive themselves. (Looking at you Eldlich the Golden Lord). Called by the Grave is very versatile and this card helps propel your plays without being afraid to common hand traps. Currently, it's in Semi-limited status so definitely craft your 2 copies.

4. Infinite Impermanence - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

The literal hand TRAP that we know. Infinite Impermanence bypasses Called by the Grave and I normally use this card when I know that I need to stop a combo at first attempt. Since you can use this in any turn (can be activated directly from hand for as long as you don't have any cards on the field), it works very well when you want to counter opponent's monsters or even negate Spell/Traps in the same column. Monster negation and floodgates are very common nowadays and this card is an easy fix. It's in unlimited status and craft 1-3. Personally, I still prefer 3 copies just to make sure survivability is high when I go second. (Again, depends on the deck that you will use)

5. Crossout Designator - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

One of the most powerful VJMP cards every created in OCG, Crossout Designator (Currently at 3 in Master Duel) is a must have together with Called by the Grave to negate hand traps or cards that your opponent has provided you have similar cards in your deck. With this card, your deck is your tool box. Unlike Called by the Grave, Crossout Designator is your go to card in negating Infinite Impermanence, Called by the Grave or even another copy of Crossout Designator by just banishing the same card that you will negate from your Deck! It's a must have at 3 although 1 will also work since you can only activate it once a turn.

6. Forbidden Droplet - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

Forbidden Droplet is an upgraded Forbidden Chalice that doesn't target and your opponent cannot respond into depending on the type of card you send to resolve its effect. This also decreases the ATK of the chosen monster (s) to half which comes in handy to prevent OTKs (One Turn Kill) or aid in destroying their monsters. This can help in breaking unbreakable boards full of negation and floodgate. 1-3 will do.

7. Effect Veiler - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

Before Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Effect Veiler came first as one of the best hand traps in the game. While Infinite Impermanence outshines it in many aspects, Effect Veiler comes in handy as an extra negation. It is also a tuner which helps you in summoning Cryston Halqifibrax or even in climbing to Accesscode Talker with the help of Selene. Get 1-3 dependin on your deck and preference. 1 is optimal for being a Crossout Designator Target.

8. Nibiru, the Primal Being - Rarity (Ultra Rare)

Here comes the plane - Nope! It's a rock! Nibiru, the Primal Being has proven itself to be one of the most game changing hand trap that can turn the tides of the game. To note, this card counts the number of monsters summoned and not the instances and with the fast-paced meta, that 5 monster target is as easy as 1-2-3 to achieve. It also brings a big 3000 ATK body that can push for game. When using it, be sure to summon the token to defense position so it won't backfire. Depending on the meta, 1-3 will do but 1 is optimal as the target of Crossout Designator if your deck relies on swarming.

9. Pot of Prosperity - Rarity (Super Rare)

Hard switch from hand-traps, let's have an all-time favorite consistency card, Pot of Prosperity. This card lets you dig your deck for your combo pieces at a cost of banishing 3 or 6 Extra Deck monsters of choice. This card works best for decks that needs consistency of getting the right cards as early as game 1. For decks that don't have enough searching capabilities, this card is for you. Do note that this could conflict with your draw power so use it wisely. 0-3 depending on your deck and preference.

10. PSY-frameEngine - Rarity (Gamma - Super Rare/ Driver - Normal)

PSY-frame engine which consists of 2 PSY-Framegear Gamma and 1 PSY-frame Driver is another hand-trap engine that bypasses Called by the Grave. Gamma lets you negate the activation of monster effects anywhere for as longas you don't control any monsters. When used during your turn, you can instantly turn it into a level 8 synchro monster or Crystron Halqifibrax. Currently, Gamma is at 2 and you only need one PSY-frame Driver. The downside of this engine is that it could potentially turn into a dead draw if you already have an established field or you no longer have a PSY-frame Driver to search. With this, I'll put this into 0-2 depending on your deck and preference.

Summary

There you have it, your top 10 must have cards. We made sure that the cards are generic as possible so you can splash it to almost any deck you desire. As you may have noticed, majority is in Ultra Rare and Super Rare rarity so be sure to craft only the cards you need. Deckbuilding requires a lot of patience and research and it's not enough that we only get inspiration just because we see that it works well with others. The real essence of deckbuilding comes with lots of playtesting and from there, you'll know the right ratio that you need and if you really NEED the card in your deck.

Master Duel allows us to easily get the cards we need by crafting and awareness is key so our crafted points won't be put into waste. There are tech cards that works well with everyone and there are some that are only good on paper. It's better to know than to assume so be sure that we do our research before we decide if it's the right cards for our deck.

Did those cards above ring a bell? What other cards do you think deserve a spot? Don't forget to share with us your own top 10 in the comments. Spread the game we love :)

Arcknight
