Is "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" a must in every Extra Deck? | AGE OF OVERLORD Single Card Discussion

Have you been in that situation wherein, you had a good sleep, joined the locals, and suddenly, you are facing "Baronne de Fleur", "Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avaramax", "Borrelend Dragon", or even the "Supreme King Z-Arc" and you find yourself not having enough resources to out these boss monsters? Well, gone are the days that we feel helpless after not having any main deck out to it as AGE OF OVERLORD brings us the newest generic XYZ that can "Slay" these potential threats!

Today, we'll feature the newest XYZ in AGE OF OVERLORD (AGOV) which is called "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" which will arrive in TCG in October! Let's dive into it!

Overview:
At first glance, "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" resembles "Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder" as it also packs a transformer/gundam-like boss appearance and it looks like its evil nemesis. To be fair, "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" is a direct counter to Zeus as the summoning condition of Zeus would instantly open the possibility of "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis". Let's admit it, we had those situation where a four material Zeus is like an auto-win situation for whoever controls it....but it looks like it'll come to an end! (Evil Laugh sfx)

Let's have a closer look at what "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" does:

AGOV-JP042 Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis
Rank 12 DARK Fiend Xyz Effect Monster
ATK 2900
DEF 2900
Materials: 2 Level 12 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using 1 monster you control with the highest ATK during the turn, or the next turn after, your opponent Special Summoned 2 or more monsters from the Extra Deck. (Transfer its materials to this card.) If Summoned this way, you cannot Normal or Special Summon other monsters for the rest of this turn.
(1) Neither player can activate the effects of monsters with 3000 or more ATK while you control this Xyz Summoned card.
(2) Once per turn: You can detach 1 material from this card; return 1 monster on the field to the hand.

How to summon it?

"Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" can be summoned the turn after the opponent summons 2 or more monsters from their Extra Deck or during the turn they did (say they are also summoning on your turn) by using 1 monster you control with the highest ATK. It's super easy that you can even use a hand trap like "Effect Veiler" or "Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring" to bring out "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis"!

There's a catch though: After you summon this card, you cannot Normal or Special summon any other monsters for the rest of that turn. I guess it's a small price to pay for salvation.

How does this XYZ help me turn the tables?

"Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" has a continuous effect to prevent neither player from activating any monster effects anywhere so long as its ATK is 3000 or more (Take that Nibiru!). This immediately shuts down "Baronne de Fleur", "Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder", or even a 3200 ATK "Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess"!

Me pulling TY-PHON in my prize pack 😭

"Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" is a generic rank 12 XYZ monster that packs a 2900 ATK and DEF which is already huge enough to single handedly overpower a "Naturia Beast" which is denying you of Spells for days.

While its ATK isn't that high to take down the boss monsters I mentioned in this article through normal head-to-head battle, it has another effect to return a monster back to hand and mind you, that effect doesn't target so the likes of "Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax" and"Borrelend Dragon" can be returned back to Extra Deck in just a single material detach!

Tips:
  • You can use cards like "Mind Control", "Triple Tactics Talent", or similar cards that can steal an opponent's monster to summon "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" for free so long as the conditions are met.
  • If you still struggle to remove the threat because it has higher ATK than "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis", you can find a way to summon "Number 16: Bagooska, the Terribly Tired Tapir" first to switch all monsters to defense position (unless they are link monsters) then use Bagooska (or another monster that fits the summoning requirement) to bring out "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis". In that way, your 2900 ATK "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" will a fair battle chance if the monsters it'll battle have weaker DEF.
Summary:
It's a new "age" indeed! AGE OF OVERLORD brought many generic cards and engines that would definitely shape our meta whether its OCG or TCG and "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" is definitely something you wouldn't want to miss having. Considering how useful this XYZ is in situations where you feel that there's no way out, I strongly feel that "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis" deserves a slot in every Extra Deck when possible.

I like that there are new cards introduced that allow going second players to fight back against tower monsters that we once thought as auto-win conditions. Now, calming the storm has never been easier with "Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis"!

Thanks for reading 'til the end! This has been Arcknight. Stay tuned as we feature more cards in AGE OF OVERLORD!
