What will the next "Mikanko" card look like? | Future Support Discussion

Heya~ ArcKnight here! I'm back with another article and this time, we'll talk about one of the Deck Build Pack: Amazing Defenders' theme which is "Mikanko". I always wonder, what kind of support does "Mikanko" need to break the scene?

Let's dig into it.

Overview:

"Mikanko" as a theme revolves around equip spells and taking advantage of their low ATK to deal damage. Their main searcher, "Ohime the Manifested Mikanko" (which was rarely ritual summoned) can search everything in the phone book. 

In CYBERSTORM ACCESS, they received "Hu-Li the Jewel Mikanko" and "Mikanko Dance - Mayowashidori" which gave "Mikanko" a defensive play by being able to search "Mikanko" trap cards.

 

DUELIST NEXUS also gave them a ritual monster and a new trap card "Mikanko Spiritwalk" which can help with the first turn set-up of "Mikanko" by being able to equip a face-up monster to your "Mikanko". The new ritual monster, not so much of a boost sadly.

Easter Egg

Sometimes, an easter egg is planted in a card that somehow would become a future support. In the artwork of "The Great Mikanko Ceremony", we can see that there is still a possible purple haired "Mikanko" that is left unrevealed as well as an orange haired "Mikanko" on the far right side. I'd say that is the case as all the other three with Hu-li (yellow green) have been revealed already. 

What does "Mikanko" need?

While "Mikanko" gained some defensive strategy recently, we can't argue that one of its weaknesses is....not having a monster to battle with to deal damage. You can't battle using Dogmatika Maximus forever or pray that you can hard draw a magical Kaiju so you can OTK (One-turn kill). Hence, here are some card ideas that I feel would fit to boost its gameplay:

•  An Equip Spell or Ritual Monster searcher - Ashoka Pillar gave "Mikanko" a boost allowing it to even summon "XYZ torpedo" and do "Armored XYZ" plays. Sadly, you cannot do this using Ashoka alone. "Mikanko" needs a reliable 3-of card that searches for something like an equip spell or "Mikanko" ritual monster that may somehow make Diviner of the Herald or Ashoka Pillar obsolete because of the "Mikanko" name. It would also be nice if it helps facilitate the ritual summon so we can finally see their ritual monsters in action.

• A theme "Kaiju" - It would be nice if "Mikanko" has a searchable "Kaiju" that you can summon on the opponent's field for free. This would allow "Mikanko" to have a searchable answer to "Expurrely Noir" and an easier way to achieve a potential OTK.

• A card that provides ATK boost - I know that the gimmick of "Mikanko" is to use your opponent's monster to destroy them to the core but based on testing, your set-up is nothing if you won't be able to see a monster on your opponent's field. This is why I want them to have a card that gives ATK boost when the opponent doesn't control any monster.

• A new equip spell that negates - Axe of Fools is tech in "Mikanko" to allow "Mikanko" to have an instant monster negate. Evenly matched is something automatically sided on games 2 or 3 when facing "Mikanko". Hence, I feel "Mikanko" deserves a new equip spell that provides at least one protection against mass wipe cards.

Summary:

As time goes by, people are starting to notice the potential of "Mikanko" and the threat it brings to the scene. I think that this deck deserves the spotlight like its comrades, "Purrely" and "Rescue Ace". I hope that this theme gets what they deserve in the future and who knows, one or two of our predictions could happen, or zero chance like the ATK points of "Mikanko". :)
