"Rex Rampage!" - Week 3 Jan 2022 Metagame Report

Hey everyone! Arcknight here and I'm back after a very long break. We'll cover the 21 topping lists out of 40 participants in our chart. This week is the official release (arrival) of Dimension Force in the Philippines and a lot of interesting cards have been tried as well.

Last week is also the official release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel in all platforms except iOS and Android and this is exciting as this ignites a lot of seasoned, new and even returning players to play the game we love. We'll have a separate discussion on what I think of Master Duel and hopefully, I can also do some quick gameplay recaps and deck list discussion soon.

For now, here is our chart:

Deck Reviews

Dinorphia

This is the list I piloted and won 1st. In my previous article here, I shared what I thought of the new Dinorphia cards released in DIFO and it is not surprising that they can also perform well in tournaments. Dinorphia Rexstrum puts a lot of pressure being a walking Mystic Mine that can be summoned easily with the help of Dinorphia Frenzy or Dinorphia Domain. Dinorphia Frenzy alone can summon Dinorphia Kentregina which can copy Frenzy and summon Dinorphia Rexsturm with minimal resources. Backed with your backrows, you can ensure victory but here's the catch - you have to protect your minimal lifepoints as well or you lose.

In this build, I tested maining Skill Drain as another way to disrupt opponent ( but usually to annoy them ). Based on experience, the card works well in Dinorphia however, you also deprive yourself with the advantage that Dinorphia Therizia and Dinorphia Diplos provide. Dinorphia Rexstrum already provides a lot of pressure so Skill Drain may already be redundant so I might switch that to side or to other better cards. I also main 9 hand traps (3 Maxx "C", 3 Ash Blossom, & 3 Infinite Impermanence) to ensure survivability going second. Overall, it worked really well since most of the time, I don't win the die roll.

Here is the list piloted by Kyle Vargas placing 1st at Toy Shogun. His build has 2 Lord of the Heavenly Prison to protect his backrow against a sudden Guardian Chimera or field wipes (HFD, Lightning Storm, Twin Twisters). He also has 3 Gozen Match in main to slow fast-paced deck who's relying on multiple attribute summons.

Tech:

Psychic End Punisher is a new generic level 11 Synchro monster debuted in Dimension Force. This card works really well in Dinorphia as we lessen our LP really quickly which opens the OTK factor of Psychic End Punisher's last effect. With our LP almost guaranteed to be always lower, this ensures this monster gains the protection from activated effects. Dinorphoa Rexsturm also reduces all of your opponent's monster ATK by copying it to your own LP which will guarantee a sure OTK. So far, this is one of the strongest level 11 generic synchro monster to date in terms of effect and stats and if you haven't gotten one, be sure to secure one already as this could be a staple synchro in the future. (This definitely gives that Baronne De Fleur vibes).

Summary:

As we get more results from other participating stores, we can expect a shift in the meta now that Branded Despia and Brave Tenyi is around. Sadly, due to increased demand, building Branded Despia and Brave Tenyi would require a lot of resources which may explain why these decks aren't present yet in our topping list. Still, the decks shown here are great contenders of meta and could be one of your choices in case you haven't picked a deck to use. We still have 2 full months left til the next OCG list kicks in so be sure to test your decks and see which fits your liking. Can Dinorphia compete with the new meta? That's something that we'll find out in our next metagame report!

'Til next time!

Arcknight
