"Let's Talk About Purrely!" - Post June TCG 2023 Banlist Analysis

Hey RespectYGOers! I'm back from writing and this time, I'll talk about one of the top contenders of this format - Purrely. For those who don't know, I also played Purrely competitively in OCG post CYBERSTORM ACCESS and its playstyle interests me at some point so I figured to share my insights. :)

As we know, Purrely received a huge consistency boost in CYBERSTORM ACCESS in the form of Purrelyly and Purrely Sleepy Memory. These cards gave them an easy access to one of their key searchers called My Friend Purrely which leads to a guaranteed Purrely Delicious Memory by revealing three copies from your deck. This Spell Card is important in bringing out Epurrely Plump which eventually can allow easy access to their ace card Expurrely Noir

In just 3 weeks...

The advent of the new June 2023 TCG Forbidden and Limited List changed this and effective June 5th in TCG, Purrely Delicious Memory is now limited. This means you will only have 33.33% chance of searching it using My Friend Purrely or by drawing it. This hurts a lot as Epurrely Plump is one of the most reliable way to speed up 5 materials to summon Expurrely Noir. At this stage, there are only a few things that we can do - it's either we use tech choices that increase the likelihood of tutoring Purrely Delicious Memory or not rely on Purrely Delicious Memory at all!

In this era where consistency is key, you need to ensure that the chance of getting your ideal board is high no matter what it takes. Hence, I have prepared some strategies and tips on how to add adapt post limiting of Purrely Delicious Memory. (Note: These tips are purrely based on my experience playing Purrely and my knowledge in the current meta so take it with a grain of delicious salt)

1. Play Foolish Burial Goods

Foolish Burial Goods is one of the tech choices that I am considering together with Metalfoes Fusion even pre-June 2023 TCG Banlist. Foolish Burial Goods helps you send any Spell/Trap of choice from your Deck to your GY which ensures that you have your desired memory for your XYZ summons.

If Purrely Delicious Memory is already present, you can use Foolish Burial Goods to either dump other essential Spell/Traps such as Rainbow Bridge of Salvation (for easy stray and extra discard material ccess in the form of Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle) or Metalfoes Fusion for a free draw. In addition, the fact that Foolish Burial Goods itself is a Spell helps Epurrely Plump in having extra GY material targets.

2. Maximize Purrelyeap!?

Purrelyeap!? which was normally used at 1 copy can now be played in multiples to ensure that you will lead to a possibly Expurrely Noir on your opponent's turn if the searching of Purrely Delicious Memory fails. The downside to this is Purrelyeap!? will eventually return the summoned monster back to your Extra Deck the following end turn. If you are not able to bring out another Expurrely Noir or a board that can protect you, this can put you at a vulnerable stage.

When using Purrelyeap!?, maximize Expurrely Noir's spin (returning cards to deck) effect when necessary and keep any remaining materials to prepare for your Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS Sky Thunder summon.

3. Here comes Santa Claws!

Going second, Epurrely Hapiness shines as another way to achieve a 5 or more material Expurrely Noir when used with Santa Claws. One of the advantages of using Santa Claws over a Kaiju is you summon it on opponent's field in defense position by tributing one of their monsters. This means Epurrely Hapiness, who should have already gained the ability to attack multiple times with the help of Purrely Happy Memory can easily ram into Santa Claws to search multiple times!

At the end of damage step when Epurrely Hapiness battles, you can add 1 Purrely card from your deck to your hand and you can keep adding as many times as you battle. You can use this effect to add Purrely Delicious Memory instantly or other memories including another copy of Purrely Happy Memory to gain additional attacks when you attach it from hand using Epurrely Hapiness' second effect which is up to thrice per turn.

4. Use a rank 2 engine

This may not be a popular idea but two level 2s can bring out any Epurrely XYZ. You can use Deep Sea Diva or Nimble Beaver to summon Epurrely Plump with 2 materials and if you have enough Spell/Trap cards to target in the GY and at least 1 Memory from your hand to attach to Plump, you can still achieve Expurrely Noir. This idea maybe a last resort and Epurrely Noir will lose its ability to spin on opponent's turn without a level 1 Purrely material.

5. (Sleep until) Duelist Nexus

DUELIST NEXUS will give Purrely a new wave of support in a form of Epurrely Noir and Purrely Sharely!? which provides another route to easily summon Epurrely Noir. These support cards are just in time now that Purrely Delicious Memory is limited. The problem is DUELIST NEXUS will only arrive in TCG by July which means we would still have a full month to endure this sad memory.

Summary

"Sometimes, we will only know the value of something until it becomes a memory."

Just like all Purrely players out there, it pains me to see that a deck who barely had a month of dominance got nerfed so early. In less than 2 weeks (or a month), OCG July 2023 Forbidden and Limited List will also be revealed and as we know, there are times before where TCG and OCG Banlist had similarities. The recent June TCG 2023 Banlist will hugely affect the consistency of Purrely and impact its prescence in the meta game. Despite of this, I'm still positive that we'll find a way to bring back our happy memories.  😏

'til NEXUS!
