Card Reasoning for the card "Reasoning"-Single Card Discussion

(Kaz) Good Day!113 Days to go before Christmasand guess what?25 days to go before the October 2014 Banlist.Seems like christmas, everyone is already been discussing few of their predictions for the upcoming banlist where hate post about their most hated cards arises. My new article for today is about a card that has been Limited for a few long years but is now free from the sealing chain of the forbidden list. The card I am talking about is "Reasoning".For those who don't know what this card does, here is the full effect:
"I choose you!"(using Ash voice from Pokemon)
Reasoning
Normal Spell Card
Card Effect:
Your opponent declares a monster LevelExcavate cards from the top of your Deck until you excavate a monster that can beNormal Summoned/Set. If that monster is the same Level as the one declared by your opponent, send all excavated cards to theGraveyard. If not, Special Summon the excavated monster, also send the remaining cards to the Graveyard.

What makes this card amazing?
  • First,it acts a generic searcher for all monster cards(provided that the opponent chose the wrong level and the monster excavated is not a nomi
  • Second,It can trigger monsters that has a trigger effects whenever it is special summoned
  • Third,It's a one for one.Meaning you do not lose card advantage(Still provided that your opponent picked the wrong level that your monsters has
  • Fourth,If there is a point that your opponent might declare the right level,it acts as a lucky-based foolish burial.
  • Last,Old cards are cool.:)
What are the decks that can benefit with this card?
  1. Melodious-Here is our first candidate. It is an archetype that involves about special summoning. In simpler term,it doesn't do anything if "Melodious" monsters aren't special summoned. This card can be a great help for them because it special summons. It has a high chance that you can special summon a "Melodious" because their levels vary from 3-8
  1. Ice Barrier-One of the member of the south water tribe Duel terminal. It receives a massive support on Photon Shockwave which was named "Prior of the Ice Barrier" and the plays that this deck makes involves using Prior everyday. But the biggest problem is that aside from their theme searcher "Medallion of the Ice Barrier",there is no other card or if so,few cards can only search those prior or moreover, the requirement of ice barrier to have another Ice Barrier face up.Good thing Reasoning can aid that.Like Melodious,Ice barrier does have different levels on the monsters part, they can also fully utilize the power of Reasoning.
  1. Spellbooks-Not only it can aid on maintaining a face up Spell caster-type monster for various Spellbook cards to work out,it can also send excavated Spellbook Spell cards as a huge fuel for Spellbook of Fate to banish cards.
  1. Dragon Rulers-dragon rulers is marked as one of the most annoying and indeed one of the most hammered deck in Yu-Gi-Oh History. In addition,Dragon Ravine which serves as their Search engine has recently been limited.Reasoning can help on summoning those dragons for no cost and since dragon Rulers has little to no number of level 4 monsters which the opponent might always declare for reasoning's effect, this deck has a great potential for using "Reasoning"
  1. Chaos Dragons-The Structured deck 22 which includes a reprint of "Reasoning" and yet no one uses it because let's admit at that time that it is overhauled by many stronger cards such as Future Fusion,Future Fusion and Future Fusion. :D Now that Future Fusion is banned and Reasoning is now unlimited(Semi-Limited for TCG for some reason, kindly explain this to me),I think this is the best deck that can use the card "Reasoning" full force! As I have said, once the opponent has luckily declared the right level that your excavated monster has,it proceeds to the graveyard. For Chaos dragon's case, whether the monster is special summoned and sent to the graveyard,it will have it's uses! In the case where your opponent declares level 4,you have a chance of sending Eclipse Wyvern to grave at the same time triggering it's effect! Then if Eclipse wyvern has happened to be special summoned instead, then you can even plus more because you can have field presence or maybe you can use it to summon Rank 4 xyzs.Same applies with Lightpulsar Dragon. Sweet!
  1. Sylvan-Since this card also has the word "Excavate",obviously it is designed as one of the cards that can help in this deck's piloting. If your opponent calls a wrong level, you can summon your Big trees or little plants. If the opponent happens to call the right level which is a very small chance, then you can trigger the effects of your powerful sylvans for no cost and without your normal summon. This is by far one of the most appealing archetypes that can use the card "Reasoning" at full advantage.
While there are many known decks that can benefit from it,offcourse there are some who doesn't and do not have a synergy to start with.
  1. Satellarknights-While satellarknights trigger their effects in any method of summoning(aside from ritual and fusion off course),it is very common that the opponent calls level 4 because it is one of the common levels in every deck.It so happens that all satellarknight monster level is 4 so you might end up just sending your knights which Mathematician and Unukalhai already does.
  1. Evilswarm-Same as above.
  1. Fire Fist-Same as above
  1. Rock Stun-most are level 4
  1. Geargia-Really,it doesn't help.
  1. Gadgets-definitely not.

There you have it, while reasoning has many pros and cons in a certain deck, there are some other decks that doesn't benefit from it.Still,it is a widely known card but yet forgotten due to the luck factor and popularity of other cards but who knows, this card might be the key to speed up your cool decks! See you next time for more exciting articles!-Kazuhiko

  1. it seems like it would be good in lightsworns, until you realize that most of the monsters could be normal summoned or set. that's when you realize it would slow down the deck and ruin the consistency of the build, if it is done right.
