(OCG) SP Format: Tier Impact [Part 1]

(Arcknight) Finally I'm back after 5 weeks of blogging hiatus.Well today,we will going to conduct a quick analysis on how the newest and hottest SP Format will affect the top tier decks of today.

Recently,we have been fazed by huge amount of spoilers and leaks that were hard to digest.First on our list was the shocking "July 2015 Forbidden & Limited List" that taught us on how to react on something with no emotions. To make the long story short, the list came with the surprising "No Change" tag on every corner of it. But before somebody pull their champagnes out, Konami announced that they will be having minor changes that will be implemented starting July 1st up to the end of September. The one I am talking about is the Set Block/Rotation or  most commonly known as the SP Format.

What is SP Format?

To start off with, all “Ranking tournaments” for Asian areas not South Korea and Japan will be using a form of set rotation called the SP Format from July 1st to September 30th, 2015.Here,you can only use cards included in Duelist Advent(DUEA) on wards and yes,the July list will also be applied(But it has no change anyway so what?)

For the detailed list of Booster Packs and Special Packs allowed, you may refer to this link below:

Now,we are going to review the top tier decks of April-June 2015 Format and the game changing cards that will be affected by this Special Format. (OCG)

TOP 1 : NEKROZ

There are several cards who unfortunately does not met the conditions of the SP List. Here they are:

1. Senju of the Thousand Hands- Looks like our fellow asura here will not be around for 3 months. This card serves as one of the benchmarks in generic ritual monster searching especially in Nekroz. Cutting this out will slow them down a little bit.

2.Djinn,Releaser of Rituals- Yes,the infamous lock down is now broken thanks to the SP format.Well, this guy has brought enough headaches and empty stomachs on people who think so hard just to find a way to cope up on a scenario involving him. Now,you can now freely enjoy your massive Special Summons avoiding the Djinn phobia.Incidentally, the "Torrential Phobia" also exist.

3.Gishki Chain- If you're thinking you can have access to this Gishki guy after losing a handful of cards mentioned above, well I don't think so. Gishki Chain was only printed on sets DT10 and DTC4(Duel Terminals) which are obviously not included on the SP list.

Substitute Engine for Nekroz:

1. Deskbot 001 And Deskbot 003- In the absence of those 3 cards,we can use these cute little robots as replacement.Even though it may lead to bad draw at times,it gives you access to the powerful "Herald of Arc Light" which is a Solemn Judgment/Macro Cosmos on Legs as well as a Searcher for any Ritual card you want.If both are present on the field,Deskbot 001 can take down an all-seeing "Masked Hero Dark Law" by using the attack boost of Deskbot 003.

Nekroz will definitely still be a top contender this format. As long as they will not get the "Dragon Ruler" type of hit, they will surely shot the darts post July.

Top 2: Masked HERO

Here are some extra-important cards you will definitely be missing once the calendar hits July:

1. Tin Goldfish and Goblindbergh- Two of the most precious cards for the Shadow Mist engine is now inaccessible due to the Special Format.

2. Omni-Heroes- Other than Gaia and Gust, all other omni heroes particularly Absolute Zero will now see no play for 3 months due for the fact that they are promo cards of the so called "Way back then" . We will definitely miss the Zero nuke.

Good Substitute cards:

1. Oasis of Dragon Souls- The Gemini twin of Call of the Haunted. It will definitely see some play because of how important special summoning Shadow Mist is. I have seen some deck lists of Masked HEROES that already topped using this tech card that's why I think it's worth the try for some of you.

2. Juragedo- Now that Shock Master and Infinity are gone,it's time to focus on our powerful mask hero Dark Law. Juragedo does many things. It can dodge you to a possible OTK and also makes your Dark Law more beefier(3400 ATK). If the need arises,it can also be used as a material for a rank 4 Xyz Play.

Top 3: Infernoid

The Picture says it all:

1. Reasoning and monster Gate- Too bad,no more godly mills using these cards. Fortunately, there are other ways to cope up for these loss but lesser chance of milling 10 or more off course.
2 Cyber Stein- The small Fusion Summoning monster will now leave for a while.

Cards that can be used as Substitute Milling:

1. Void Launch- the original themed mill engine.Practically not favored because reasoning and monster gate are just a hundred times better. Now that the two commonly used engines are finally on a vacation for a while, players may consider this one although it's a bit slower and requires set-up.

2.Card Trooper- Guess like we have to stick again on this one.

Top 4: Atlantean

Nothing much to discuss here because aside from "Neptabyss the Atlantean Prince",the deck has lost its core contents. In other words,SP Format makes the entire Mermail/Atlantean deck unplayable in the meantime.

Cons:
-The Whole Mermail Clan got washed away.(ABYR Exclusives)

-Atlantean Clan got Captured(SD23 Exclusives)

-No Deep Sea Diva

On our next post,we will discuss the generic cards that becomes entirely unplayable and the decks that you may consider this SP Format. The Bell is ringing,it's time for arcknight to say bye bye for now! Have a great day!!!!
