Here's WHY you have to take the new "Doodle" cards SERIOUSLY! | New 1-Card Combo

Just today, we have received a new update from the upcoming Animation Chronicle (AC02) that will be released on OCG this June 11, 2022 and the buzz of the moment are the new Doodle cards! Aside from their cute and peculiar artworks, there's actually a deeper story behind them and that's what we're going to talk about in this exclusive article.

Origin

Doodle is an archetype used in Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V by anime character Frederick also known as Futoshi Harada. As a theme, they are composed of EARTH monsters which look like crayon hand-drawings made by a child using awkward lines or hand-made painting with the addition of white border around the drawing.

Frederick from Arc-V

Aesthetically, the look and feel is almost similar to Melffy but this archetype looks like it was cut out of a sketch book. They appeared in Episode 027 and Episode 141 for those who would like to revisit.

The currently revealed Doodle monsters are all Dinosaur-Type and see to be focusing on tribute summoning high-level Dinosaur-type monsters beatdown style!

The upcoming booster pack Animation Chronicle 2022 has finally unveiled three new cards related to the theme.

AC02-JP032 らくがきじゅう-すてご Rakugakijyuu – Sutego (Doodle Beast – Stego)
Level 5 EARTH Dinosaur Effect Monster
ATK 1200
DEF 1800
You can only use the (1) and (2) effects of this card’s name each once per turn.
(1) If you control no monsters, or all monsters you control are Dinosaur monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
(2) If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 “Doodlebook” Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand, then discard 1 card.

Card Review

The first effect is quite decent being able to Special summon itself for free at practically no cost. Upon summon, it also searches any Doodlebook Spell and Trap card making it a must have once the theme expands. Not only that, it also dumps any card from hand right after allowing you to send monsters or Spell or Traps that shines better in the graveyard.

As a Dinosaur player back in the day, (Yes I roar on weekends) I still have good memories chaining Survival's End in the grave as a surprise disruption to your opponent.

AC02-JP034 らくがきちょう-とおせんぼ Rakugakichou – Toosenbo (Doodlebook – Uh uh uh!)
Normal Trap Card
You can only use the (1) and (2) effects of this card’s name each once per turn.
(1) If your Dinosaur monster is targeted for an attack: Negate the attack, then you can Special Summon 1 “Doodle Beast” monster from your GY, and if you do, it cannot be destroyed by battle, also destroy it during the End Phase.
(2) If this card is in your GY, except the turn it was sent to there: You can banish it; add 1 Level 5 or higher Dinosaur monster from your Deck to your hand.

Card Review

The first thing that caught my attention is it's name lmao. Aside from that, it features a standard battle protection with in-built call of the haunted effect with protection. Quite decent in the year 2015 or less but still uh...nice.

It also has an interesting graveyard effect that acts as a Fossil Dig-esque search card but for level 5 or higher Dinosaur-Type monster. Sadly, you couldn't use it the same turn it is sent so no Foolish Burial Goods shenanigans. (Sad Dino Noises). You can use it quickly on your opponent's turn though since it's a trap card in grave.

Lastly, is the boss monster of the theme!

AC02-JP033 Rakugakijuu – Tyranno / Doodle Beast – Tyranno
EARTH Dinosaur/Effect
Level 8
2400/1200
You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 Dinosaur monster. You can only use the 1st effect of this card’s name once per turn.
(1) During the Main Phase, if there is a Dinosaur monster on the field, you can (Quick Effect): Immediately after this effect resolves, Tribute Summon this card from your hand.
(2) If this card is Normal Summoned: You can destroy 1 monster on the field, then, if this card was Tribute Summoned by Tributing a “Doodle Beast” monster, it gains ATK equal to half the ATK the destroyed monster had on the field.

Initial Thoughts

Yes! The big daddy Doodle! It comes in a surprise as it tribute itself quickly during either player's main phase so long as you have a Dinosaur-Type monster! Not only that, when Normal Summoned, you can destroy any 1 monster on the field and also gains ATK equal to half the ATK the destroyed monsters had on the field for as long as you tributed a Doodle Beast monster. This triggers the baby dinos and also acts as a hard to counter hand-trap for Dinosaurs

Tributing your Dinosaur-Type monster using Doodle Beast Tyranno could also potentially save you from card effects that targets so Tyranno works decent as well on your own turn.

Tech cards

Soul-Eating Oviraptor is a monster that can search any Dinosaur-type monster. This monster can search this card and since Doodle Beast-Tyranno only requires 1 Dinosaur-Type monster as a material due to its special effect, you have a guaranteed handtrap! If you can afford using your normal summon using Oviraptor, you can also use Fossil Dig as a searcher for Doodle Beast - Stego which can eventually search Tyranno thru Uh Uh Uh. (I felt weird writing this sentence).

Aside from traditional Dinosaur deck, Dinomorphia is another competitive archetype who debuted in Battle of Chaos that can take advantage of Doodle Beast Tyranno.

If you have played Dinomorphia competitively, you can really see its main weaknesses: Fragile LP (and timed match lol). While Dinomorphia Rexterm can prevent your monsters from being attacked by taunting them with its ATK lowering effect on your opponent's monsters, it doesn't prevent your opponent from attacking directly.

Cards like Sky Striker Ace - Hayate, Number 23: Lancelot, Dark Knight of the Underworld and Altergeist Meluseek are some of your main nemesis that can attack your hopeless LP. Doodle Beast - Tyranno can immediately Tribute summon itself using your Dinosaur monster (can tribute 1 only) to summon it. Since Tribute Summon is treated as Normal summon, you can destroy 1 monster (doesn't event target) so you can potentially eliminate potential threat to your LP.

Basic Combo

From the looks of it, this could potentially turn into a new engine and here's a guide:

Goal

This engine can ensure that you have a walking handtrap dino on your opponent's turn that can destroy their monster without using your precious normal summon on your turn since Doodle Beast-Stego can special summon itself. It's a decent engine that can disrupt opponent's play.

Summary

We are getting closer to the release date of Animation Chronicle and as the day approaches, more decent cards are getting revealed. We also have the July 2022 OCG Forbidden & Limited list coming our way and we are few hops away in knowing what cards will be hit by the banhammer. Will Animation Chronicle make an impact in the meta? Share your thoughts in the comments!
