Do you have what it takes to become a "Goblin Biker"? | New archetype discussion - PHANTOM NIGHTMARE (PHNI)

Long ago, a theme called "Purrely" was created. Everything was fun and light until "Purelily" became "Expurrely Noir". Your heart is suddenly filled with rage as you're unable to get rid of it. It gets even worse as your friend tells you "just draw the out". You tried searching for answers on the internet and it ended getting negated by "Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring", just like your hopes and dreams.

A few months later, an elite group called "Goblin Biker" was formed which specializes on stealing XYZ materials. Filled with determination, you decided to join the group and pay the miscellaneous fees. "Do you have what it takes to become a 'Goblin Biker'?", said Goblindberg. "Aye aye", you uttered. The training begins and your first task is to meet your squad.

Welcome to your journey on becoming the newest "Goblin Biker" in PHANTOM NIGHTMARE. Please head to the meeting room!

Meet the squad:

The squad consists of 6 members. Let's get to know them one by one.

Goblin Biker Dug Assaulter

This monster is your typical 3-off starter that can search any "Goblin" spell/trap. It also packs a bonus effect to special summon itself by detaching an XYZ material from any monster on the field. This is super neat if you're facing threatening XYZ monsters like "Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus - Sky Thunder" or "Purrely" XYZ monsters. Play 3.

Goblin Biker Clutter the Noisy

This monster can revive any fallen "Goblin" monster in your GY except its name. It also has a bonus effect to revive itself from GY by just detaching a material from an XYZ. While this effect only works on your opponent's turn, it is a neat interruption for XYZ monsters that rely on XYZ materials to do something. I'd say 1-2 copies since you don't want to draw this as it's not a starter.

Goblin Biker Boon the Machspeed

The hand trap of the archetype which once again, messes XYZ materials to special summon itself. It works on either main phase and he can revive itself as well in GY. It's a good extender though sadly, it only has one effect. 1-2 copies will do.

Goblin Biker Mianda the Coldblooded

Mianda is one of the core monsters of "Goblin Biker" to do the XYZ summons. It also has a nice GY effect to revive itself by detaching a material. The banish can be bypassed if Mianda is used fot another XYZ monster. In that way, you have unlimited extender each of your turns. Play 2-3.

Goblin Biker Big-Head Gabonga

The core rank 3 XYZ of "Goblin Biker". Your main search for this will be Dug Assaulter or Boon. If you start the combo with Mianda, you can detach the Mianda material to special summon Dug Assaulter or Boon. Mianda can detach another material to special summon itself and you can prepare for another rank 3 or rank 6 with the help of their new spell. Play 2-3 copies in Extra.

Goblins' Crazy Beast

A generic rank 6 monster that can steal face-up Spell/Trap. It also has an in-built protection by just detaching a material. I think what's the most useful effect is its 3rd effect. It allows you to revive itself and attach a material to it which makes it easier for you to summon "Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus - Sky Thunder". Other than that, I feel there are better XYZs to summon. Play 1-2 in extra.

Spell/Traps

Grand Meeting of the Goblin Bikers

It has a nice 300 ATK boost for every "Goblin". monster you control. It also acts as an extender to normal summon another "Goblin Biker" in case you need more in the absence of Mianda. This is also your go-to spell when changing the levels of the monsters to rank 6. 1-3 copies. 1 could work.

Grand Arrival of the Goblin Bikers

The monster searcher of the theme. It doubles as an XYZ Encore-esque card like the rest of the core monsters which allows you to special summon a "Goblin" monster from hand right after the search. It also has a nice GY effect to recycle a "Goblin" monster in your GY by just detaching an XYZ material from a monster on the field. This card can also search "Goblin" cards like "Memento Goblin" and "Goblindbergh". Best of all, it is searchable by "Goblin Rider Duck Assaulter". Play 3 copies.

Goblin Biker Stampede

The lone trap of the theme. It has two effects but you can only use one of the two per turn. The first effect allows you to XYZ summon on either main phase using "Goblin" monsters you control. So far, I don't see any rank 3 XYZ that is useful as an interruption. It's second effect is useful to negate 1 effect monster on the field when you detach an XYZ material. Play 1.

Other strategies you can try:

  • Emergency Teleport - You can play this card to special summon a level 3 monster like "Psychic Tracker" and "Psychic Wheeleder". "Ghost Ogre and Snow Rabbit" could work as another target which also doubles as a handtrap.

  • Speedroid Engine - Speedroid Terrortop and Speedroid Taketomborg could work as an engine to bring out their rank 3. I just hope you don't draw both.

  • Armored XYZ Engine - You can summon Armor XYZ Torpedo to draw additional card then climb to XYZ Armor Fortress which can search Full-Armored XYZ. You can summon Full Armored Dark Lancer and have another solid defense.

  • Utopic engine - You can use your XYZ monsters with the same rank to summon Number F0: Utopic Future which eventually becomes Number F0: Utopic Draco Future to give you a nice monster negate and monster steal.

  • Tour Guide from the Underworld - Tour Guide from the Underworld is an instant rank 3. Just don't get negated by Ash or Impermanence.

Summary:

"Goblin Biker" showed a decent strategy that can powercreep one of the top contenders of this format which is "Purrely". As a theme, I still feel that they need more support to strengthen their board without relying too much on outside support.

It's refreshing to see another XYZ based archetype with a cool playstyle. I'm sure better support will come its way as you join this theme as a "Goblin Biker" in the future sets so buckle your seatbelt and get ready!
