What kind of support does "Dinomist" deserve? | Future Support Discussion

Hey everyone! ArcKnight here. Today, I'm going to make another future support discussion article. This time, I'll focus on the "Dinomist" archetype, a WATER Machine pendulum theme with dinosaur-like features which debuted in Breakers of Shadow (BOSH).

I always wonder, what kind of support does "Dinomist" deserve in the future? Let's discuss further.

Overview:

The strategy of "Dinomist" is beatdown with protection from their theme "Dinomist" monsters (Scale 3 Battle and Card effect destruction protection and scale 6 for targeting negation). Maximum Crisis (MACR) gave them "Dinomist Howling" which provided an instant scale set-up and protection access while Darkwing Blast gave the theme "Dinomight Powerload, the Dracoslayer" which allowed the theme to use spare "Dinomist" pendulums as extender.

Speaking of extenders, the theme currently doesn't have any useful strategy to make use of additional "Dinomist" on the field aside from additional battle related effects which, to be fair, isn't something that can stand in today's fast paced meta game.

What's the challenge?

The theme only has "Dinomist Charge" as its first turn consistency piece and "Dinomist Pteran" requires to destroy a monster by battle to add which isn't useful going first. Hence, I can see a huge consistency issue when playing pure. "Dinomist" also doesn't have any solid win condition aside from battling and their stats aren't that astonishing to begin with. With the rise of non-targeting removal, their scale's protection won't even impact that much.

What's NEXT for "Dinomist"?

The theme requires a lot of rework when it gets support while keeping its strategy. Hence, below are some of the ideas that I hope they get as a card in the future:

1. A "Dinomist" Link monster - The new master rule really affected the pendulum strategy where you can only pendulum summon from the Extra Deck to extra zone or link points available. Like PHNI's "Majespecter, "Dinomist" also deserves its own link monster.

2. A "Dinomist" spell/trap searcher - A Spell/Trap searcher is missing in the theme so I hope they get one. It would also be nice if it can also directly activate the "Dinomist" Spell/Trap so that "Dinomist Howling" can be used right away as an instant scale set-up. This searcher could be a new "Dinomist" monster so we can have more starters.

3. A "Dinomist" fusion monster - Since "Majespecter Draco" was inspired by "Majester Paladin, the Dracoslayer", there's a strong chance "Dinomist" can get a new fusion monster inspired by "Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer." A contact fusion-enabled monster would be nice and it can either add a search effect or omni-negate for maximum control.

4. A new spell card that can tutor any "Dinomist" monster - A spell card that can special summon any "Dinomist" monster from your deck with or without controlling a "Dinomist" monster.

5. A rewarding way to OTK or beatdown - Since "Dinomist" is designed as a beatdown-control deck, it would be nice to get a card that supports this strategy. Cards that can boost their ATK even more and generate card advantage every time a "Dinomist" monster battles or as insane as a card that can double their ATK to some extent would be nice additions.

Summary:

"Dinomist" is one of those decks that showed potential that I feel it deserves more love in the upcoming sets. At this rate, it puzzles me how they can boost "Dinomist" so it can be on par with the speed of the current meta. The idea of giving them future support excites me and I'm pretty sure all other "Dinomist" fans as well.

How about you, what do you think "Dinomist" should get as support in its next era?
